eating out: dovetail (& shake shack!)

those of you who know me know that there is nothing i love more than eating out.  but from time to time i also like going to restaurants…

in an attempt to find a happy medium between my carnivorous cravings and april’s delicate vegetarianism, april took me to dovetail for their $38 prix fixe, 3-course, vegetarian “inspired” dinner.  served every monday night, diners can choose any 3 dishes from a menu that includes vegan, vegetarian, and “vegetable focused” (i.e. mostly vegetables with some bits of meat) dishes.  the meal price also includes dessert which makes it one of the better deals in town. while i opted for vegetable focused dishes for 2 of my 3 choices (which were both great), i have to say the best dish i had was actually a vegetarian dish: the spring vegetable tempura.  of course this is likely less of a win for vegetables than a win for battered, fried stuff.  but, i do have to say that our meal made a fairly good argument for not having to consume whole animals in order to have a tasty meal.  overall a lovely meal with lovely company.

one added bonus of eating at dovetail, is that the UWS shake shack is located next door.  and given that it was about 15 minutes before they closed when we passed by, i justified to myself that this was likely the least crowded i would ever see a shake shack. so i coerced april into stopping in with me for some cheese fries and frozen custard, which i suppose can both be classified as vegetarian.  maybe being a vegetarian isn’t so bad.  lol, sometimes i say crazy things…
